Aquafresh Fresh & Minty Enamelock Formula (1450ppm fluoride)

Aim

• To compare the efficacy of new Aquafresh Fresh & Minty Enamelock Formula with other commercially available dentifrices in an in situ caries model, in promoting enamel fluoride uptake and remineralization.

Method

• This was an examiner-blind, randomised, crossover, in situ clinical study in n=57 healthy adults.
• Subjects were fitted with a partial denture containing partially demineralized (with lactic acid) enamel specimens, which they wore throughout the test periods.
• Surface microhardness and fluoride uptake (using the microdrill enamel biopsy technique) were evaluated.

Results

• Aquafresh Fresh & Minty Enamelock formula provided similar fluoride uptake to the other sodium fluoride (1450ppm fluoride) dentifrice tested and delivered significantly greater fluoride uptake than the commercially available dentifrice with the same fluoride concentration (p<0.05) (Figure 1).
• Aquafresh Fresh & Minty Enamelock Formula provided similar enamel surface microhardness recovery compared to the other dentifrices with the same fluoride concentration that were tested (Figure 1).

Conclusion

• Aquafresh Fresh & Minty Enamelock Formula helps maximise fluoride uptake and enamel strength with a standard concentration of fluoride [Newby et al, 2008] – providing daily oral health protection for the whole family.
