1. Aquafresh Between Teeth provides superior interproximal access efficacy* [Murad et al, 2008a]
Aim
- The interproximal access efficacy of Aquafresh Between Teeth was compared with that of two other commercially available toothbrush products.*
Method
- Six toothbrushes from each product group (Aquafresh Between Teeth, leading cross-bristle toothbrush, ordinary flat-trim toothbrush) were tested four times for a total of 24 tests on each toothbrush design.
- The tooth brushing technique involved independent evaluations of each toothbrush in a vertical and horizontal brushing motion.
- Tooth shapes simulating anterior and posterior teeth and a brushing weight of 150 g was used (brushing procedure: 15 seconds at two strokes/second with a 50 mm stroke).
- The maximum width of the artificial plaque removed (interproximal access efficacy) was recorded in cm using vernier callipers.
Results
- The mean interproximal access efficacy was significantly higher (p<0.001) for Aquafresh Between Teeth than for the commercially available toothbrushes (Figure 1),* as a result of reaching up to 50% deeper into the interdental areas.

Conclusions
- Differences in interproximal access efficacy were observed between Aquafresh Between Teeth and commercially available toothbrushes.
- Aquafresh Between Teeth:
- – demonstrates superior interproximal access efficacy by reaching deeper into the
interdental areas.*
* Studies compared Aquafresh Between Teeth with ordinary flat-trim and leading
cross-bristle toothbrushes.
